Bootstrap Panel Group

Overview

Sometimes we should separate some little (or not so much) pieces of content to make them stand up and get the client's focus-- such as mentioning some handy features providing a selection of short articles with a small extract and a solitary powerful picture and so on and on.

Thus we want a handy solution to perfectly wrap our information in a flexible and stunning manner to get it nice and neat shown on our sites. In the latest version of the most famous flexible framework-- Bootstrap 3 we employed mostly the Bootstrap Panel Default, thumbnail and well elements giving us box containers having a faint border, quite elliptical edges and finally-- a slight 3d outcome. In the latest Bootstrap 4 framework, these are no more. They get got substituted collectively by the card piece stating to be efficient in pretty much whatever the ancestors could do but basically better. So it's time to get to know it better.

Methods to employ the Bootstrap Panel Border:

The cards are delicately styled containers capable of holding practically any HTML content in them also featuring a many predefined styling possibility for properly showing its article. It also optionally could have a footer and a header.

In order to produce a card we initially need a .card item to wrap the complete thing up. Inside it distinct covers for the header .card-header, the actual card content .card-block and the footer .card-footer should take place and while the header and footer are rather optional and can be omitted if you don't require them the .card-block is the necessary part-- it nicely wraps your content giving some subtle padding around.

In the .card-block element you could have a label carrying the class .card-title which can be added to theh1-- h6 elements as well as to a regular <div> and fo course -- come text wrapped in a section with the .card-text class. If you make a decision to insert some web links as well-- assign them the .card-link class to get them nicely separated for greater user interaction.

The contextual color classes could be used to additionally style your whole card sections easily-- just add a .card- ~ one of the contextual colours here like primary, success, info or danger here ~ to the main .card wrapper and if the background becomes a bit overly dim for the text to be understandable enough-- additionally add the .card-inverse class to alter the text color. You may also design only the boundary color scheme employing the contextual scheme-- this gets done by assigning the .card-outline- ~ the wanted shade ~ class again to the main .card section.

As stated above the .card-block arrives to wrap the content keeping a pretty padding around it. The moment it gets to images this could want to avoid this and get the pic stretched the whole width of the component.

To obtain this look just place the <div class="img"><img></div> tag outside the .card-block so you prevent the paddings eventually adding style=" width:100%;" making sure this is going to resize properly always filling in its container.

Some words regarding the layout-- cards will fill the entire horizontal area available by default thus it's a smart idea restricting it by putting them inside some grid elements. With this you can obtain their expected actions.

Some instance

Cards are created with as little markup and styles as possible, but still handle to provide a ton of control and customization. Created using flexbox, they deliver easy positioning and combine well with other Bootstrap components.

Here is a model of a fundamental card with different content and a fixed width. Cards have no fixed width to start, so they'll naturally occupy the entire width of its parent section. This is quickly modified with many sizing choices.

 For example
<div class="card" style="width: 20rem;">
  <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card picture caption"></div>
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Card caption</h4>
    <p class="card-text">Some fast sample message to build on the card title as well as compose the bulk of the card's material.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>

Web site material sorts

Cards support a broad selection of content, featuring pictures, text, list groups, hyperlinks, and more. Listed below are samples of what's supported.

Blocks

The building block of a card is the .card-block. Use it whenever you want a padded section in a card.

Blocks
<div class="card">
  <div class="card-block">
    This is some message in a card block.
  </div>
</div>

Titles, text message, and hyperlinks

Subtitles are utilized by including a .card-subtitle to a <h*> tag. In case the .card-title and the .card-subtitle elements are placed in a .card-block item, the card title and subtitle are positioned well.

 Names, text, and {links| web links| hyperlinks| urls
<div class="card">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
    <h6 class="card-subtitle mb-2 text-muted">Card subtitle</h6>
    <p class="card-text">Some fast example message to improve the card title and compose the mass of the card's content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="card-link">Card link</a>
    <a href="#" class="card-link">Another link</a>
  </div>
</div>

Images

.card-img-top places an image to the head of the card. With .card-text, text may be included in the card. Text inside .card-text may also be styled with the regular HTML tags.

 Pics
<div class="card">
  <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card picture cap"></div>
  <div class="card-block">
    <p class="card-text">Some fast example message to build on the card title and also compose the bulk of the card's web content.</p>
  </div>
</div>

Listing groups

Generate lists of content in a card using a flush list group.

Selection groups
<div class="card">
  <ul class="list-group list-group-flush">
    <li class="list-group-item">Cras justo odio</li>
    <li class="list-group-item">Dapibus ac facilisis in</li>
    <li class="list-group-item">Vestibulum at eros</li>
  </ul>
</div>

Merge up and fit various information types to generate the card you desire, or throw everything in there. Shown here are picture styles, blocks, text message styles, and a list group - all wrapped in a fixed-width card.

Image cap
<div class="card" style="width: 20rem;">
  <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
    <p class="card-text">Some quick example text to build on the card title and make up the bulk of the card's content.</p>
  </div>
  <ul class="list-group list-group-flush">
    <li class="list-group-item">Cras justo odio</li>
    <li class="list-group-item">Dapibus ac facilisis in</li>
    <li class="list-group-item">Vestibulum at eros</li>
  </ul>
  <div class="card-block">
    <a href="#" class="card-link">Card link</a>
    <a href="#" class="card-link">Another link</a>
  </div>
</div>

Header and footer

Add an extra header and/or footer inside a card.

Header and footer
<div class="card">
  <div class="card-header">
    Featured
  </div>
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Unique title therapy</h4>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting message below as an all-natural lead-in to extra content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go someplace</a>
  </div>
</div>

Card headers could be styled by adding .card-header to <h*> components.

Header and footer
<div class="card">
  <h3 class="card-header">Featured</h3>
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h4>

Scale

Cards have no specific width to start, so they'll be 100% expanded until otherwise mentioned. You can alter this as wanted with customized CSS, grid classes, grid Sass mixins, or utilities.

Utilizing grid markup

Making use of the grid, wrap cards in columns and rows as required.

 Utilizing grid markup
<div class="row">
  <div class="col-sm-6">
    <div class="card">
      <div class="card-block">
        <h3 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h3>
        <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
        <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
      </div>
    </div>
  </div>
  <div class="col-sm-6">
    <div class="card">
      <div class="card-block">
        <h3 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h3>
        <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
        <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
      </div>
    </div>
  </div>
</div>

Using utilities

Use handful of readily available sizing utilities to rapidly establish a card's size.

Utilizing utilities
<div class="card w-75">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h3 class="card-title">Card title</h3>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Button</a>
  </div>
</div>

<div class="card w-50">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h3 class="card-title">Card title</h3>
    <p class="card-text">With sustaining message listed below as an all-natural lead-in to extra web content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Button</a>
  </div>
</div>
Making use of utilities
<div class="card" style="width: 20rem;">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h3 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h3>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to added material.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>

Information positioning

You could promptly change the text placement of any card-- in its entirety or certain components-- with text align classes.

Text placement
<div class="card" style="width: 20rem;">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h4>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>

<div class="card text-center" style="width: 20rem;">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h4>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>

<div class="card text-right" style="width: 20rem;">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h4>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>

Site navigating

Add some navigation to a card's header (or block) with Bootstrap's nav components.

Navigation
<div class="card text-center">
  <div class="card-header">
    <ul class="nav nav-tabs card-header-tabs">
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link active" href="#">Active</a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link" href="#">Link</a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link disabled" href="#">Disabled</a>
      </li>
    </ul>
  </div>
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h4>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>
Navigation
<div class="card text-center">
  <div class="card-header">
    <ul class="nav nav-pills card-header-pills">
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link active" href="#">Active</a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link" href="#">Link</a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link disabled" href="#">Disabled</a>
      </li>
    </ul>
  </div>
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h4>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>

Pictures

Cards include a number of options for operating with images. Go with attaching "image caps" at possibly end of a card, overlaying pictures with card content, or simply installing the image in a card.

Picture caps

Similar to headers and footers, cards may contain top and bottom "image caps"-- pics at the top or bottom of a card.

 Pic caps
<div class="card mb-3">
  <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
    <p class="card-text">This is a wider card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This content is a little bit longer.</p>
    <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>
  </div>
</div>
<div class="card">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
    <p class="card-text">This is a wider card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This content is a little bit longer.</p>
    <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>
  </div>
  <div class="img"><img class="card-img-bottom" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
</div>

Picture cover

Turn an illustration into a card background and overlay your card's text. Depending on the image, you may or may not need .card-inverse (see below).

 Illustration overlays
<div class="card card-inverse">
  <div class="img"><img class="card-img" src="..." alt="Card image"></div>
  <div class="card-img-overlay">
    <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
    <p class="card-text">This is a wider card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This content is a little bit longer.</p>
    <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>
  </div>
</div>

Card assortments

Cards include various opportunities for customizing their backgrounds, borders, and color.

Inverted text

By default, cards use dark text and suppose a light background. You can change this by toggling the color scheme of text within, in addition to that of the card's subcomponents, with .card-inverse. Then, specify a dark background-color and border-color to go with it.

You may additionally use .card-inverse along with the contextual backgrounds versions.

Inverted text
<div class="card card-inverse" style="background-color: #333; border-color: #333;">
  <div class="card-block">
    <h3 class="card-title">Special title treatment</h3>
    <p class="card-text">With supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
    <a href="#" class="btn btn-primary">Go somewhere</a>
  </div>
</div>

Background variants

Cards feature their own variant classes for easily modifying the background-color and border-color of a card. Darker colors request the use of .card-inverse.

Background variations
<div class="card card-inverse card-primary mb-3 text-center">

Showing meaning to assistive modern technologies

Employing color to add meaning only supplies a visual indication, that will not be shared to users of assistive technologies-- for example, screen readers. Make sure that information denoted by the color is either evident from the material itself (e.g. the visible text), or is included through alternative means, such as extra content hidden with the .sr-only class.

Outline cards

Need a colored card, but not the hefty background colors they provide? Replace the default modifier classes with the .card-outline-* ones to style just the border-color of a card.

Card concept

In addition to styling the material within cards, Bootstrap provides several options for laying out series of cards. For the time being, such layout choices are not yet responsive.

Card groups

Utilize card groups to make cards as a single, attached item with identical width and height columns. Card groups utilize display: flex; to accomplish their uniform sizing.

Card groups
<div class="card-group">
  <div class="card">
    <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
    <div class="card-block">
      <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
      <p class="card-text">This is a wider card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This content is a little bit longer.</p>
      <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>
    </div>
  </div>
  <div class="card">
    <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
    <div class="card-block">
      <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
      <p class="card-text">This card has supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>
      <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>
    </div>
  </div>
  <div class="card">
    <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
    <div class="card-block">
      <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
      <p class="card-text">This is a wider card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This card has even longer content than the first to show that equal height action.</p>
      <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>
    </div>
  </div>
</div>

When employing card groups with footers, their content is going to automatically line up.

Card groups
<div class="card-group">
  <div class="card">
    <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>

Card decks

Required a collection of equivalent width and height cards that typically aren't connected to one another? Use card decks.

Card decks
<div class="card-deck">
  <div class="card">
    <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
    <div class="card-block">
      <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
      <p class="card-text">This is a longer card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This content is a little bit longer.</p>
      <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>
    </div>
  </div>
  <div class="card">
    <div class="img"><img class="card-img-top" src="..." alt="Card image cap"></div>
    <div class="card-block">
      <h4 class="card-title">Card title</h4>
      <p class="card-text">This card has supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content.</p>

      <p class="card-text">This is a wider card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This card has even longer content than the first to show that equal height action.</p>
      <p class="card-text"><small class="text-muted">Last updated 3 mins ago</small></p>

Like with card groups, card footers in decks are going to automatically line up.

Card columns

Cards can be organized into Masonry-like columns with just CSS by wrapping them in .card-columns. Cards are constructed with CSS column properties instead of flexbox for easier alignment. Cards are ordered from top to bottom and left to right.

Carry on! Your mileage with card columns may vary. To prevent cards breaking across columns, set them to display: inline-block as column-break-inside: avoid isn't a bulletproof solution yet.

      <h4 class="card-title">Card title that wraps to a new line</h4>
      <p class="card-text">This is a longer card with supporting text below as a natural lead-in to additional content. This content is a little bit longer.</p>

Card columns may also be extended and customized with some added code. Revealed listed below is an extension of the .card-columns course utilizing the very same CSS-- CSS columns-- to create a set of responsive tiers for transforming the number of columns.

.card-columns
  @include media-breakpoint-only(lg)
    column-count: 4;

  @include media-breakpoint-only(xl)
    column-count: 5;
